Properties of Noble Gases (Group 0)
- Noble gases all exist as colourless, non-flammable gases at room temperature.
- Because noble gases have full outer electron shells, they are inert, meaning they do not react with other elements.
- Since they do not bond with other atoms, noble gases exist as single, monatomic atoms rather than molecules.
Trends Down Group 0
- The boiling points of noble gases increase as you go down Group 0, following the same trend as the halogens.
- This trend means that helium (at the top) has the lowest boiling point, while radon (at the bottom) has the highest.
