Testing for Hydrogen
- A lit (burning) splint is held near a test tube containing the sample gas to test for hydrogen.
- If hydrogen is present, a squeaky pop sound is heard as the hydrogen ignites and reacts with oxygen in the air.
- The squeaky pop occurs because the heat from the flame provides the energy needed for hydrogen to combust and form water.
